Press Release

October 22, 2019

Event takes place October 29 at Scotia Bank Centre in Niagara Falls Ontario

BUFFALO, NEW YORK – The Ontario Craft Brewers (OCB) and the Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association (BNBA) are teaming up to host the first ever Canadian American Beer Festival (Can Am) at the Ontario Craft Brewers Conference and Supplier’s Marketplace on October 29, 2019 at the Scotia Bank Centre from 6-10 p.m. in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The event is co-hosted by the US Consul General, the Canadian Consul General and benefits Habitat for Humanity Niagara.

“Collaboration is key to the success and growth of the brewing industry, so what better way to foster that growth than by partnering with our colleagues to the north for an event that showcases the full potential of what the craft beer scene offers to our respective regions,” said Willard Brooks, founder of the Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association. “While this is only the first iteration of the Can Am, we look forward to growing it into a large annual beer festival and competition taking place on both sides of the border, celebrating the many great breweries and international friendships that exist in our bi-national region.”

This year, the Can Am festival will feature more than 20 breweries from Canada and the United States. The participating breweries will be serving their signature beers, and showcasing the creativity, quality, and dedication to flavour that defines local craft beer.

Planning for the 2020 Can Am is well underway. The pairing draw for the 2020 event will kick off this year’s event, which will see brewers team up to brew as many as 40 unique collaboration brews for next year’s conference.

“The Can Am event is a highlight of this year’s conference and an opportunity for craft beer lovers to try innovative beers created by some of the best craft breweries on both sides of the border,” said Paul Corriveau, Committee Chair, Ontario Craft Beer Conference. The cross-border event epitomizes the spirit of this year’s theme, ‘Collaboration through Community’ and a one-of-a-kind event that the craft beer industry will be talking about and every craft beer lover will not want to miss.”

Tickets are available for $20 CA and can be purchased online at The purchase of a ticket includes entry into the event, a commemorative tasting glass, access to all festival beers, and six drink tickets

About The Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association:  The Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association (BNBA) exists to unify the Buffalo Niagara craft beer community in order to increase regional sales of craft beer through promotions, marketing, public awareness, consumer education, and to monitor and assure a thriving craft beer and brewing industry within the Buffalo Niagara Region.

About the Ontario Craft Brewers Association:
Ontario Craft Brewers: Real People. Real Craft Beer. Ontario Craft Brewers is an association of 90+ small, independent brewers dedicated to making great tasting, high quality beer in Ontario. Ontario Craft Brewers brew their beers locally using fresh, all-natural ingredients in communities throughout Ontario – from the Ottawa Valley to Windsor and Niagara to Muskoka and as far north as Kenora. Handcrafting over 550 premium beers, Ontario Craft Brewers employ over 2,200 people (FTEs) in Ontario, accounting for over 30 per cent of the direct brewing industry jobs in the province. As of 2018, Ontario’s Craft Brewers’ share of the provincial industry was over 8.9% of the beer volume sold. Craft beer continues to be the fastest growing segment within the LCBO’s beer category. The OCB’s long-term vision is to have at least one brewery in every city and town in the province and to make Ontario a North American Centre of Excellence for Craft Brewing. Please enjoy our Ontario Craft Beer responsibly.
